It was Kyra’s first birthday, and the house was full of balloons and streamers. Everything was pink, polka-dotted, and decorated with Minnie Mouse. Kyra’s favorite! Kyra smiled as she saw a big Minnie Mouse balloon floating near her. “Look, Kyra, it’s Minnie Mouse!” said her mum. Kyra clapped her hands and reached for the balloon. On the table, there was a Minnie Mouse cake with a big number one on top. Everyone sang “Happy Birthday,” and Kyra’s eyes lit up when she saw the candle glowing. She tried to blow it out, but her giggle made everyone smile. After cake, Kyra opened her presents. Inside one box was a soft Minnie Mouse toy. She hugged it tight and laughed. It was the best birthday ever. As the day ended, Kyra snuggled with her new Minnie toy, happy and tired after her magical day. Minnie Mouse seemed to smile back, as if to say, “Happy birthday, Kyra!”

Mayuka was set to perform a group dance along with classmates from 4th standard first and later, a solo dance in the competition category. Two weeks became one week and then soon enough Rainbow School’s annual day arrived. She was exhausted from the constant practice yet excited. ‘Welcome to Rainbow School’s Annual Day,’ read the banners everywhere. Mayuka walked into school chirpily with her mother. Since her father’s death a year ago, it was her mother who attended all her school events. Mayuka and her mom went to her classroom, buzzing with her dance pals. ‘Where’s my skirt?’ ‘Miss, my hairclips are missing.’ Ka-chik, ka-chik, selfies everywhere. Mayuka got ready quickly. Her mom gave her the usual good luck kiss. The dancers waited backstage as Miss Lily announced ‘Here come the dance champs of class 4!’ The audience clapped exuberantly before and after the dance.

Everyone has an invisible circle like this around them.” Page 5: She called one student, Sarah, to stand inside the circle. “Sarah is in her personal space. Now, if someone steps inside her circle without being asked, it feels too close,” Mrs. Green explained. “Let’s try to stay outside each other’s circles unless we are invited in.” Page 6: When it was Thomas’s turn, teacher asked him to stand inside the circle. His friends stayed outside, and they all smiled. Thomas could see that they were happy and comfortable talking from just the right distance. Page 7: “Good job, Thomas!” Mrs. Green said. “Remember, when we talk to our friends, we can give them some space by imagining their personal circle. That way, everyone feels happy.” Page 8: From that day on, Thomas practiced imagining the invisible circle when he talked to his friends.
