At school, her teacher, Pani Novak, taught in German. Luzia tried teaching Upper Sorbian to her classmates but found it challenging. After school, she played in the luga (meadow), singing Sorbian songs. At home, she helped her babka make knedliki (dumplings) and listened to her děda's tales. She whispered "Dobru noc, swět" (Good night, world) each night, dreaming of preserving her culture. One favorite poem was "Serbska Róža" (The Sorbian Rose). Luzia hoped for a future where everyone knew her language. As long as she spoke Upper Sorbian, it would live on.

Edwards stayed in the area and attempted to start a rebellion. On December 21, 1826, Edwards and his supporters claimed part of East Texas free and independent of Mexico. They named it the Republic of Fredonia. They even had support of the Cherokee in the area. However, most Anglo settlers in Texas did not support Haden’s rebellion. When a group of men from Austin’s colony joined with Mexican soldiers to march on Fredonia, Haden and his brother fled to the United States. The unrest caused Mexican leaders to rethink their immigration policies.

Rabbit is getting ready for the long cold as well. Rabbit is harvesting and stacking many carrots. Little Fox thinks, " Maybe some carrots would be good in my soup." Little Fox gives Rabbit two acorns for one carrot. Little Fox heads on down the walk by Hedghog's hole. Hedgehog is busy collecting moss for his bed and twigs for his door. Little Fox helps Hedgehog gather his supplies. Hedgehog gives Little Fox 2 bundles of twigs for three acorns. Little Fox continues down the walk to find more things for the long cold. Little fox came upon Turtle fishing in the pond. " Wow, some fish would be tasty in my soup!" he exclaimed. Turtle gives Little Fox 3 small fish for 4 of his acorns. Little Fox continues down the walk to find more things for the long cold. Little Fox finds Porcupine stuck under a log. Little Fox lifts the log and helps Porcupine to get free. Porcupine gives little fox a quill for his help! Satisfied with his adventurous walk, Little Fox begins to head home. Little Fox's wagon is a little heavier than when he started. Little Fox takes everything inside. He looks at his findings for the long cold and is happy. He has an acorn, crunchy carrots, and tasty fish for his soup! He has plenty of twigs to keep his fire warm and toasty and a new quill to knit a new tie and cap! Little Fox finishes eating his soup and climbs into bed for a well-deserved good night's rest. Elara the explorer was climbing Mount Gigglepuff! She bounced along the path, her backpack jiggling with only a yummy apple and a sparkly hair clip. But wait! A little boy, Timmy, tumbled and scraped his knee! Elara, super-helpful Elara, got out her sparkly hair clip (it was also a tiny first-aid kit!) and helped Timmy all better. Timmy, so happy, gave Elara a bouncy, red ball! "What will I do with a bouncy ball?" Elara giggled. Further up, a fluffy bunny, Barnaby, was stuck in a prickly bush! Elara carefully freed Barnaby, and Barnaby hopped away, leaving behind a shiny, smooth pebble! "A pebble? For what?" wondered Elara. Near the top, a tiny bird, Pip, had lost its nest! Elara found some soft leaves and helped Pip build a cozy new home. Pip chirped happily and dropped a bright yellow feather! "A feather? Why?" Elara chuckled. Finally, Elara reached the top of Mount Gigglepuff! But oh no! She'd forgotten her juice box, her yummy sandwich, and her silly hat! She was SO sad. Then, she remembered the gifts! The bouncy ball became a super fun bouncy seat! The smooth pebble was perfect for skipping across the mountaintop! And the bright yellow feather? It made a super-duper sparkly hat! Elara ate her apple, feeling very happy. She learned that helping others was the best adventure of all, and sometimes, the best things come in unexpected packages – like a bouncy ball, a pebble, and a feather! And Mount Gigglepuff was the best mountain EVER!
